When does my child need a pediatric hematologist?
Pediatric hematologists specialize in disorders of the blood. If your child has a problem with excessive bleeding or bruising, blood clots or abnormal blood counts, he or she should be referred for evaluation by a primary care physician.
When does my child need a pediatric oncologist?
Pediatric oncologists specialize in cancer disorders. Your pediatrician may refer you for evaluation if your child has an abnormal lump or mass that does not go away or increases in size, or if the blood tests show abnormal cells or an abnormal number of cells.
Do I need a referral?
  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): Yes (Exceptions: AvMed and Health Options)
  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): No
  • Point of Service (POS): No
  • Provider Service Network (PSN): Yes
  • Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS): Yes

Our authorizations coordinator will schedule your scans with the hospital. Call our main phone number 954-265-2234.
How do I reach a doctor after hours?
Call our main phone number: 954-265-2234 and you will be directed to our after-hours service. They will obtain your information and page the on-call physician to assist you.
What do I do if my child has a fever?
If your child is a patient, call our main phone number at 954-265-2234 and you will be directed to our office staff or after-hours service. They will obtain your information and either notify a nurse or page the on-call physician to assist you.
What do I do if there is a question on a medication or a problem with a prescription?
Call our main phone number at 954-265-2234. You will be directed to our office staff or after-hours service. They will obtain your information and either notify a nurse or page the on-call physician to assist you. Also, it is very important to bring all medications your child is taking when you come for your appointment.
How do I obtain test results?
Call our main phone number at 954-265-2234 and select option 3 during office hours, and the office staff will obtain your information so a nurse or doctor can return your call promptly.
We are from out of town. Is there a place where we can stay while our child is hospitalized?
Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation operates the Conine Clubhouse, a "home away from home" for families with children who have come from out of town to receive inpatient treatment at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Rooms are available at the Clubhouse free-of-charge, based on availability.
