Children with serious illnesses or injuries often face complex emotional and behavioral health challenges. Our team of psychologists in the Psychology Department at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital specializes in providing support to children and families facing emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges related to an acute or chronic medical condition. We are dedicated to helping children adjust to their diagnosis, follow their care plan, and succeed in school.

Our team offers evaluations, therapy and resources from the time of diagnosis through treatment and recovery. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is the only pediatric hospital in Broward County with this depth of emotional and behavioral health support for children with complex illnesses or injuries.

Our Psychology Department primarily offers inpatient pediatric psychology and neuropsychology services to children hospitalized at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Outpatient appointments may be available to patients referred directly by one of the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital specialty programs. Please contact our office at 954-265-6966 for more information.

Our Team

Pediatric Psychologists

Pediatric psychologists teach children how to cope with the demands of a chronic or acute medical condition, such as cancer, heart disease, kidney failure, solid organ transplant, obesity, and critical illnesses or injuries.

Pediatric Neuropsychologists

Pediatric neuropsychologists evaluate and treat children with complex neurological conditions (i.e., epilepsy, autism) that affect the brain’s function (neurology). They pay special attention to how those medical conditions affect a child’s thinking, problem-solving, attention, memory, school performance, emotional functioning and behavior.

Our licensed pediatric psychologists and neuropsychologists have advanced training and extensive experience. Meet our team.

If you feel your child is in crisis, or a danger to themselves or others, call 911 or take them to the nearest emergency room for evaluation. You can also contact the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling or texting 988.
