Pediatric Heart Treatments at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Heart Institute

We are a comprehensive treatment center. Cardiologists and other specialists send children and their families here for treatment such as:

  • Cardiac ablation: Cardiac ablation is a nonsurgical, catheter-based procedure we use to treat children with an arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm). With ablation, we use heat or cold to safely treat the abnormal heart tissue causing the arrhythmia. Learn about cardiac ablation.
  • Cardiac catheterization: Cardiac catheterization helps us diagnose many pediatric heart conditions, including congenital heart disease. Cardiac catheterization also helps us treat children without surgery. Read about cardiac catheterization.
  • Electrophysiology: Electrophysiology is the branch of cardiology that treats the heart’s electrical system. Find out more about how we use electrophysiology to treat children with abnormal heart rhythms and other congenital heart conditions.
  • Heart surgery: We can treat many pediatric heart conditions without surgery. If your child does need surgery, our surgical team provides the best care possible. Learn about our approach to heart surgery.
  • Heart transplant: We are one of the most active transplant programs in Florida, with a strong record of successful transplants. Read about heart transplant at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
  • Ventricular assist device (VAD): A ventricular assist device (VAD) is a type of pump that helps children who are waiting for a heart transplant. By circulating the blood, it helps keep them strong enough for surgery when a heart becomes available. Learn more about how VAD works.
