Pediatric Heart Conditions We Treat
Our pediatric heart specialists care for the complete spectrum of pediatric and congenital heart conditions, including:
- Arrhythmia: An arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm. Some arrhythmias are common and can be treated with medications. For other arrhythmias, we are able to treat them in our electrophysiology lab, where heart specialists diagnose and treat heart rhythm disorders. Learn more about arrhythmia.
- Cardiomyopathy: Cardiomyopathy is a weakening of the heart muscle that makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood and perform other functions. There are different types of cardiomyopathy, which range in symptoms and severity. Learn more about how we diagnose and treat children with cardiomyopathy.
- Congenital heart disease: About 1 in every 100 babies is born with a congenital heart condition (an abnormality in the heart’s structure). For those that don’t resolve on their own, we offer treatment. In fact, with today’s advancements in medicine, we can successfully treat the vast majority of congenital heart conditions, some without surgery. Learn more about the different types of congenital heart disease.
- HLHS and single ventricle defects: Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), when parts of the left side of the heart do not develop completely, is the most common single ventricle defect. It requires careful management over several years, and our teams are well-qualified to provide all the treatment a child may need. Find out more about HLHS and our comprehensive program to treat it.
- Heart failure: Our pediatric heart failure program is one of the strongest of its kind in South Florida. We have many treatments to help children and their families manage a weakening heart, including heart transplant. Learn about heart failure.
- Marfan syndrome: Marfan syndrome is a connective tissue disorder that is usually genetic. It can affect areas related to the heart and blood vessels. Read more about our program to evaluate and treat children with Marfan syndrome.
