Expertise for Rare Genetic Conditions

December 11, 2020

Emma, who has a rare genetic disorder, comes to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital every week for infusions.

Emma was diagnosed as a baby with Morquio A Syndrome, an incredibly rare genetic disorder. “Only one child’s born a year with her condition,” said Rose, Emma’s mom.

They came to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital looking for answers and found not only a diagnosis, but advanced treatment and patient- and family-centered care from the care team.

“I went to a hospital that really cares about my child,” Rose said.

Emma’s body doesn’t make an enzyme that she needs. So she and her mom travel from Miami-Dade County to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital every week for infusions.

“It's worth every drive over here, every hour to come over here because I know my daughter is getting the right treatment she deserves, and the right care she deserves,” Rose said.

And “it makes me feel better!” said Emma.
