Dressed to Grill: NICU Babies Celebrate July 4th

July 02, 2025

Just in time for the 4th of July, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Memorial Hospital Miramar brought the backyard BBQ indoors—with a tiny, adorable twist.

Nurses and staff dressed their smallest patients as summertime favorites like hamburgers, french fries, and watermelon, all “served” by pint-sized chefs.

These lighthearted moments may seem small, but they mean the world to families who can’t be home for holidays and milestones. The festive photos offer a heartwarming reminder that even in the NICU, there’s room for a little fun—and a lot of love.

A chef's kiss to the NICU team at Memorial Hospital Miramar, especially Nurse Tai Smith who creates these magical memories for families.
