Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital has joined the Optum Transplant Network, which allows for the hospital’s pediatric heart transplant program to be listed among Optum’s transplant facilities across the country.

The Optum Transplant Network includes more than 890 solid organ and stem cell transplant programs at 167 hospitals nationwide.

With this recent designation, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Pediatric Transplant Program is now eligible to join Optum’s Transplant Center of Excellence Network, which manages more than 18,000 transplant referrals each year.

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the leading children’s hospital in Broward and Palm Beach, received UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) accreditation in 2010 to launch the pediatric heart transplant program.

Since its inception, physicians and the clinical team of the transplant program have performed 36 successful transplants.

The approval of the program is the culmination of years of strategic planning, including the formation of a pediatric cardiac transplant team with the right mix of expertise and compassion.
