Back to school and back to sports! Whether it's a virtual dance class, travel baseball, or training for karate, did you know that returning to sports after downtime requires reconditioning?

In the video below, medical director of the U18 Pediatric Sports Medicine Program, Dr. Matthew Fazekas, shares tips on the following three important things to help youth return to sports safely and avoid injuries.

  • Nutrition and Hydration: Proper nutrition and hydration before and after exercise is extremely important.
  • Proper Acclimatization: Make changes to what you would normally do based on your local weather or climate.
  • Good Aerobic Capacity: Building your cardiovascular health over several weeks will help you safely return to sports.
