Adolescent Weight Loss

Weight-Loss Surgery for Teens from a Team of Experts

Helping Teens Take Control of Their Health

The teen years can be extra challenging when dealing with weight-related health and social issues. At Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, we want every teen to be healthy and happy. Like any family, we’ll do everything we can to help them get there. That’s why we offer a weight-loss surgery program especially for teens ages 15-17*.

Weight-loss surgery can increase a teen’s self-esteem and improve some health conditions for a longer, healthier and happier life. Conditions including Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea can be improved through bariatric surgery.

We understand that obesity is a clinical condition that may be difficult to treat with diet and exercise alone. While bariatric surgery isn’t for everyone, when it’s the right option for a teen, our team of experts can help.

Eligibility
Ages 15-17*
Body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater, or 35-39 with other significant medical conditions
Failure to lose weight with physician-guided diets and exercise regimens

*With parental consent.

Our family is here with a supportive, compassionate program that teens and their families can trust.
