About Me

I am a dual fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. I specialize in the care of children, adolescents, and teenagers with all sports injuries; ankle and foot conditions including clubfoot and flatfoot deformity; and hip pathology. During my fellowships, I received advanced training in the most current treatment of sports injuries of the hip, knee and shoulder. As a triathlete and avid outdoor enthusiast, I understand the importance of a healthy and quick return to full function.

Both of my parents worked in healthcare – my father as a general surgeon and my mother as a nurse – so I grew up in a household of caregivers. It was a natural process for me to follow them into healthcare and pursue my own way to help others heal.

I enjoy the hands-on experience of caring for pediatric orthopaedic patients and having the ability to help them return to doing the things they love. Not only do I treat my patients in the short term, but also continue to follow them and their families as they grow.

When working with patients, I believe education is key. This helps both patients and their families understand the diagnosis and treatment options. I’m a believer in a shared decision-making process leading to optimal treatment for each situation.

In addition to providing individual patient care, I also enjoy serving as a team physician for many sports. I have worked with Judge Memorial Catholic High School boy’s football, Salt Lake City Stallions (American Alliance of Football), University of Utah men’s football, University of Utah women’s volleyball, University of Utah women’s gymnastics and Utah Jazz (men’s basketball).

Research

My clinical research focuses on exploring the fields of pediatric orthopaedics and sports medicine.

Currently, I’m involved in research with the University of Washington performing clinical research in pediatric trauma, and the University of Utah performing biomechanical research in the hip and knee. I hope to incorporate clinical research in pediatric sports medicine into my practice.
