Home Alone, Safe Alone

Home Alone

Purpose

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and the South Florida Chapter of the National Safety Council have teamed up to bring the Home Alone, Safe Alone curriculum to third graders. It is our goal to reach 6,000 children in the South Broward Hospital District a year.

What We Teach

This 45-minute program offers tips to children on walking home from school safely, “stranger danger” topics and what to do when they are home alone to keep themselves safe and busy.

What We Provide

  • A magnetic wipe-off board for emergency numbers and addresses, house rules and chores.
  • A letter for parents reviewing the program so they can reinforce the safety messages with their children.

Details of the Program

  • Target Grades: 3rd Grade
  • Length of Program: 45 minutes

Memorial Healthcare System does not advocate children staying home alone without adult supervision, but we understand that sometimes it is necessary. Children who do the best are those who know how they should be spending their time alone and those who are prepared to handle emergencies.
