Physician Biography
Dr. Scholl comes to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital from
Monroe Carrell, Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University
Medical Center, where he was Assistant Professor in the Department
of Cardiac Surgery and Surgical Director of Heart Transplantation
and Director of the Cardiac Assist Device Program. Prior
to that, he was Interim Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Nashville
Veterans Administration Hospital.
Dr. Scholl was a featured resident in six episodes of the New York Times Television program “Resident Life,” which aired in 2003 on The Learning Channel. His research at Vanderbilt concerned the development of a cardiac tissue bank for proteomic analysis of cardiac function, development and pathophysiology. He is also one of the patent holders for an implantable pediatric assist device and is a reviewer for “The European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery & Interactive CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery.”
Dr. Scholl’s major clinical interest is improving the safety and quality of neonatal and pediatric cardiac surgery.
