Sun-Sentinel – Facebook feature inspires new organ donors
Donating an organ has long been considered a noble gift. Now, Facebook may be helping to make it cool, too... "The fact that more people are talking about [organ donation] raises awareness," said Dr. Maryanne Chrisant, medical director of Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital's cardiac transplant program. "I think that anything an individual can do that connects them with the rest of the world and brings them good karma is a cool thing to do."

Palm Beach Post – Heart pump saves Wellington boy's life
Jayden Villano is crawling around Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital's Family Resource Center like most 19-month-old toddlers would, playfully pushing a small yellow ball while holding a colorful barn in his tiny hands. Sitting nearby, Alexa Guiterrez, Jayden's mom, smiles as tears begin to well up in her eyes. It's easy to understand why. Six months ago, Jayden was near death, the victim of an oversized heart that was rapidly failing. "He was a ticking time bomb," said Guiterrez, 24, a Wellington resident.

Starting May 1, all Broward public high school athletes will be required to undergo baseline neurocognitive testing before playing sports.
"We're finding more and more often that it's smaller hits that kids are going through that causes a concussion as well,” said Tony Milian. He is the director of U18 sports medicine at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.

Daniel Quesada, 11, can run a mile in 6:03 minutes seconds. Danny, a third-grade student at Our Lady of the Lakes school in Hialeah, doesn’t have asthma, but has cystic fibrosis (CF), a condition caused by a genetic mutation that leads to sticky mucus buildup in the lungs, digestive tract and other areas of the body. “This little guy is a real trooper,” said Dr. Juan Martinez, medical director of the division of pediatric pulmonology at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood. Martinez has been treating Danny for the past eight years.
