Pediatric and Adolescent Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Program

Comprehensive Accredited Rehabilitation Program

The Memorial Rehabilitation Institute at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in Broward and Palm Beach counties that has a dedicated and distinct pediatric comprehensive medical rehabilitation unit. As a tertiary care facility collaborating with Memorial Rehabilitation Institute, we care for children and adolescents with conditions resulting from illness, injury or chronic disabilities with complications. Our program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) as a pediatric specialty program, a qualified endorsement of our adherence to internationally recognized service standards, as well as our commitment to high-quality services. Our program is the only program in South Florida staffed by fellowship-trained pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists.

Meeting Your Child’s Special Needs

Our multidisciplinary team of pediatric specialists assesses the needs of each patient to design an individualized program to speed healing, improve functional independence, help the child reach his or her rehabilitation goals, and educate the family about their child’s needs. The rehabilitation team uses age and developmentally appropriate activities to improve the performance of mobility, communication, cognitive, social, and self-care skills. Therapy services are provided a minimum of six days per week.

The rehabilitation team consists of pediatric specialists in each of the following fields led by a team of pediatric physiatrists:
