Wasie Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Neonatal Intensive Care for Newborns Who Need Extra Care

The Wasie Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital provides both level II and level III neonatal intensive care services for babies who require more care than the Newborn Nursery can provide. With a team of neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, physician assistants and specialty-trained

nursing, respiratory and support staff — We offer the powerful combination of advanced technology, a commitment to great outcomes and our remarkable brand of patient- and family-centered care that benefits even the youngest and tiniest patients.

We pride ourselves on providing an environment where clinical expertise coexists with the belief that the strength of the healing process lies within the family unit.

With a total of 64 beds (42 Level III and 22 Level II), we are the largest NICU in Broward County.

All neonatologists are board certified and our division is proud to be a pioneer in the introduction of the "Cool cap" hypothermia for asphyxiated newborns in Broward County. Our team members have an ongoing commitment to clinical research, continuing education and quality improvement projects. What's more, we have been active participants in the Vermont Oxford Network, a nonprofit voluntary collaboration of healthcare professionals dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical care for newborn infants and their families, for more than 20 years.

Extraordinary Care for Extraordinary Babies

The Wasie NICU provides both level II and level III care for critically ill newborns. Our services are monitored 24 hours a day by our world-class team of experts and specialists, as well as a staff of extraordinarily compassionate and caring professionals.

Support During a Difficult Time

If your baby is being admitted to the NICU, your tremendous joy at the arrival of your baby is probably mixed with concern for your child's health and well-being. We understand the challenges this situation brings and are committed to supporting families through this difficult time. In addition to providing a warm and family-centered nurturing environment to help you bond with your baby, we offer the Conine Clubhouse, a place for families to stay while their babies are being cared for at the hospital.
