Transporting Patients to the Hospital
Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital offers both air and ground transport for patients being transferred to our facility. Each member of our pediatric transport team is certified in pediatric advanced life support and advanced cardiac life support and is highly experienced in emergency pediatric care. The neonatal transport team is certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and Neonatal Transport. Whenever possible, a parent is invited to accompany the child during ground or air transport.
Ground Transport
Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital has a dedicated ambulance for prompt ground transport of infants and children from local hospitals. The pediatric transport team includes a pediatric intensive care nurse, a pediatric respiratory therapist and a pediatric intensive care physician, if necessary. The neonatal transport team includes a neonatal intensive care nurse, a neonatal respiratory therapist and a neonatal nurse practitioner or neonatologist, if necessary. In addition, our transport team performs mobile extracorporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO) for patients, who may need to be transferred to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital for highly specialized cardiopulmonary services. Our transport team provides high-quality medical care on the way to the hospital while staying in constant contact with hospital-based physicians to help facilitate seamless care upon arrival.
Air Transport
Aeromedical services through a fully equipped Lear jet also are available for emergency transport of severely ill or injured children. This "critical care module with wings" has flown to locations throughout Florida, the Caribbean and abroad to transport children under the care of a specially trained in-flight medical team. To assist in the delivery of more children to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital for specialty care, helicopter transport is available.
