Bio
Dr. Julie Long is a fellowship-trained, board-certified pediatric surgeon who earned her medical degree and her bachelor's degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She trained as an intern, surgical resident and fellow at Barnes Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where she became Chief Resident General Surgery. She went on to a pediatric surgical fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Michigan at Wayne State University in Detroit.
She joined the medical staff at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in 1992, and has held numerous leadership roles. In addition to serving as chief of staff (2008-2011), Dr. Long has been a member of the hospital's Trauma, Medical Executive and Credential committees.
Dr. Long is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Pediatric Surgical Association, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Pediatric Oncology Group. She has held two academic appointments as an assistant professor of clinical surgery, as well as a number of administrative appointments at various hospitals. She has been published and made many presentations on a variety of topics, including pediatric surgery, and pediatric emergency and trauma care.
