Allergy/Immunology

Physicians specially trained in allergic diseases and the immune system treat and manage disorders including asthma, food allergies, insect sting reactions and nasal allergies.

Anesthesiology

Pediatric anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital are specially trained in the proper sedation of children undergoing surgery or other procedures.

Cancer Program

The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Pediatric Specialty Center, Division of Hematology and Oncology offers evaluation and management of children with cancer and blood disorders. Board-certified pediatric oncologists along with other specialists on staff treat conditions including acute leukemia, lymphoma, rhabdomyosarcoma and tumors, as well as anemia, hemophilia and sickle cell disease. Pediatric radiologists complement the Division of Hematology and Oncology with procedures that assist in detection and post-treatment care.

Cardiac Center

The Cardiac Care team consists of board-certified pediatric cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, intensive care physicians, anesthesiologists, nurses, and respiratory, occupational and physical therapists. The team provides treatment of heart defects in children, from birth to age 18, including advanced cardiovascular procedures such as cardiac catheterization testing, pacemaker implantation and valve repair and replacement.

Cleft and Craniofacial Center

The Cleft and Craniofacial Center at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital offers the most comprehensive program in the region for children with craniofacial anomalies. A team of surgeons, pediatricians, nurses and other medical professionals specialize in the treatment of cleft lip/palate, facial trauma, Pfeiffer's and Treacher-Collins syndromes, congenital ear anomalies and a variety of other conditions.

Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Center

The Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Center provides education and treatment of cystic fibrosis, asthma, premature lungs, chronic cough, shortness of breath and other chronic lung conditions. Specialists in pediatric pulmonology, pediatric gastroenterology, nutrition, social work, nursing and respiratory therapy are skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of cystic fibrosis. Outpatient services include a variety of therapies, educational programs, support groups and financial counseling. The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Center is accredited by the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Developmental Clinic

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital offers an early intervention program for the evaluation of children who are at high risk for developmental delays.

Emergency and Trauma

The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Emergency Department is staffed by experienced pediatricians and pediatric nurses specifically trained in emergency medicine. As the only Pediatric Trauma Center in South Broward, the Emergency Department is equipped to handle even the most critical of emergencies. Minor emergencies are handled at KidsCare, a special department designed to treat and discharge patients in a quick and friendly manner. (Memorial Hospital West also offers pediatric emergency care and KidsCare.)

Endocrinology

The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Pediatric Specialty Center, Division of Endocrinology provides evaluation and management of children with diabetes and metabolic/endocrinology disorders that affect both growth and development. The Division of Endocrinology is an American Diabetes Association recognized provider.

Gastroenterology

The Pediatric Gastrointestinal Suite at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital offers treatment for children suffering from gastrointestinal illnesses, liver diseases and bowel disorders.

General Pediatrics

Over 100 pediatricians at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital are available for consultation. Pediatric health services include well child exams, sick child visits and speech and hearing services.

General Surgery

Pediatric surgeons at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital provide a wide range of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures including the treatment of appendicitis, tonsillitis, congenital disorders and other conditions.

Genetics

For the parent concerned about potential genetic complications, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital provides information to individuals, couples and families about the risk for certain birth defects or genetic disorders. Techniques are used to diagnose or determine risk for a variety of genetic disorders that may develop during pregnancy, with appropriate treatment or referrals available based on the patients’ needs.

Infectious Disease

Infectious disease specialists provide therapy and treatment for children suffering from infections including measles, chickenpox, meningitis and HIV/AIDS.

Inpatient Unit

The inpatient unit at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital has medical and surgical services in a comfortable and secure environment. In our kid-friendly inpatient unit, children and families can watch television, play games, find fun in indoor and outdoor playrooms, keep up on schoolwork and make friends with our pet volunteers.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The pediatric ICU is staffed 24 hours a day by pediatric intensive care physicians, surgeons, critical-care nurses and therapists. The ICU team provides treatment for children up to 18 years old who are suffering from chronic illnesses or severe injuries.Back to Top

Interventional Neuroradiology

Interventional neuroradiology offers a safe, effective, minimally invasive method for treating cerebral vascular conditions such as aneurysms, arterioveneous malformations and acute local thrombolysis treatment for stroke. Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is at the forefront of this highly specialized treatment, with Memorial Healthcare System’s new, multimillion-dollar interventional neuroradiology suite.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The NICU provides medical, surgical and nursing services for critically ill newborns, specializing in treating conditions specific to premature infants, including respiratory distress and congenital defects. The NICU is one of only a few hospitals worldwide to offer Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), a life-saving procedure for infants with severe respiratory problems. Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is an accredited Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Unit. On-staff perinatal specialists provide quality care for mother and baby at all stages of pregnancy.

Ophthalmologists at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital focus on visual development and impairment in children. They are on call around the clock to assist in the treatment and management of visual complications from conditions such as diabetes, trauma, ocular disease, corneal abrasions and sinusitis.

Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery

The oral/maxillofacial surgeons at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital offer comprehensive treatment of conditions affecting the bones and soft tissues of the mouth, face and jaws. Some of the services include facial reconstruction following trauma, correction of misaligned jaws and cancer surgery to the face and neck.

Orthopaedics

The Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics specializes in the treatment and care of children suffering from broken bones, clubfoot, scoliosis, sports-related injuries, cerebral palsy and other orthopaedic conditions. Fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital make up the largest group of specialists in Broward, Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties.

Psychiatry/Psychology

Using a 10-bed inpatient psychiatric unit, the Children Adolescent Treatment Services (CATS) program provides evaluation and therapy for children and adolescents dealing with emotional illness or substance abuse. Inpatient programs are available for patients ages 9-17 years. Services such as crisis stabilization, psychiatric evaluation, bio-psycho-social assessment, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy discharge planning and after-care placement address issues regarding communication, problem solving, coping and self-esteem.

Pulmonary Medicine

Physicians at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital are board-certified in pediatric pulmonary medicine. Services include the treatment of breathing and sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and asthma.

Radiology

The Pediatric Radiology Department offers a full range of radiology examinations, including radiography, fluoroscopy, MRI and ultrasound.

Radiation Oncology

Dedicated radiation oncologists provide the latest procedures for prevention, detection and treatment of tumors. Skilled nurses and therapists complement the physician services, providing complete and comprehensive care.

Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center (RPICC)

The State of Florida has designated Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital's Level III Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as a Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center (RPICC) for neonatal services, one of only 11 in the state.

Rehabilitation

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital provides age-appropriate programs designed to improve healing after the treatment of trauma and other conditions. Rehabilitative therapists are trained and qualified in physical therapy and treatment and management of attention deficit disorder (ADD), cerebral palsy and other problems.

Rheumatology

The rheumatologists at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital treat diseases associated with arthritis, autoimmune conditions and musculoskeletal pain disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and tendonitis.

Transport Program

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital has a dedicated, multifaceted Emergency Transport Program that provides prompt, safe medical transfer of children to help ensure patients get the care they need as quickly as possible. This Emergency Transport Program includes a dedicated Ground Transport Team, which provides safe medical transfer from area hospitals; an Emergency Helicopter Transport Service, which brings critically ill children from healthcare facilities as far away as Central Florida and the Keys; and last but not least, an Air Transport Team, which uses a special Lear jet to fly patients from locations around the world.
