Pediatric Neurosurgery Program

NadarAn Aventura boy is alive and well after an accident on a golf course put his life in jeopardy.

Nader, 11, was struck in the head with a golf ball at close range. He was rushed to
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, where a CAT scan revealed a large blood clot pressing on the right side of his brain. Ian Heger, MD, Medical Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery, performed a delicate operation to remove the clot.

After spending a week in a medically induced coma to allow his brain to heal, Nader was brought back to consciousness. Following intensive occupational, physical and speech therapy at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Memorial Regional Hospital Fitness & Rehabilitation Center, he became a straight-A student who enjoys an active life.

Nader’s mother Iman was grateful to the staff who made her comfortable. “They’re like my family, the nurses, the doctors, everyone,” she says.
