Multiple Trauma
Multiple trauma is the medical term for injuries that occur simultaneously on more than one part of the body as a result of an acute injury, such as a car accident. These traumas are treated in the emergency room by a multidisciplinary team.
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is staffed with pediatric intensivists (physicians specializing in intensive care) who work closely with the Division of Pediatric Neuroscience to ensure a smooth transition in care as patients with neurological injuries get transferred from the emergency room to the operating room, the ICU or other parts of the hospital.
